The first race of the weekend took place dry conditions with all competitors starting on the slick tyres.
Heading into the first corner on lap one it was Freke leading Mussi, Wrathall, Breeze and Sharp. Freke ran wide pushing the leading three through the gravel moving Sharp up a position in front of Wrathall, only for Wrathall to regain the position later that lap. The race at the front of the pack ended in contriversy when contact between the second and third place cars left Breeze beached in the gravel and forced him into retirement. Sharp finished the race in a respectable fourth place.
Race two of the weekend and the race started in difficult conditions. As the rain started to fall on the parade lap the race was delayed to allow tyre changes before the start of the race. Sharp made the best of a low qualifying at the start to move into third by the first corner. Mussi managed to regain third from Sharp with a pass in turn three. Sharp then began to receive pressure from the fifth place car of Touring car veteran Carl Breeze. Breeze managed to squeeze pass Sharp into the final corner and was able to pull a gap but was unable to catch team mate Fulvio Mussi. Heading into the later stages of the race, Sharp began to catch Breeze for fourth position, setting the second quickest lap of the race but ran out of time as the chequered flag dropped as the pair crossed the line bumper to bumper.
The final Ginetta G50 Cup race of the day and another change of conditions as the track dried out. The IDL prepared car of 18 year old Sharp started in sixth but another quick getaway moved the surrey based racer up into fourth. A small mistake from Sharp gave Breeze a good run into the final corner and he made the pass, enabling Hetherington to pass Sharp also. Heatherington then made a move for fourth, but lost control and span through the gravel trap. Sharp went onto finish in a solid fourth.
“Overall it wasn’t a bad weekend” explained Sharp, It was just a bit disappointing that i couldn’t do any better that fifth in the wet considering we had good pace”
Focus is now on the next race weekend at Silverstone 30 August where Tom Sharp and the IDL team will be hoping for some more good results
