Rockingham motor speedway was to hold the penultimate round of the British Touring Car Championship, and the Supporting Ginetta G50 Cup.
With Camberley’s Tom Sharp sitting 5th in the overall championship points, the race was on to see who would secure maximum points scores form the weekend’s events.
Saturday mornings qualifying session and it was a strong showing for Sharp, placing his G50 on the second row of the grid for all three races.
The final race of the weekend got underway and it was a slow getaway for the IDL prepared car of Sharp, due to an overheating clutch. Contact between the front runners put Frank Wrathall out of the race and with Sharp initially dropping down the order, he was back up to 5th after picking his way through the mayhem. After an early safety car, Sharp muscled his way past Christian Dick to move up a position and started to chase down Adam Morgan for the last podium position. Two laps later and an opportunist move from Sharp heading into turn one secured his second podium of the season.
‘It feels great to be up on the podium again, especially after having a bad result earlier today, its just really good to come away with a decent result to reward all the hard work that’s been put in by everyone.’
Sharp would like to thank his supporters IDL engineering, MKN and Pro Mart for all their help and support over the weekend.
