It was another strong showing for the IDL team and driver Tom Sharp (Camberley) in the final three rounds of the Ginetta G50 Cup, picking up more podium finishes and securing fifth overall in the driver’s championship.
With a qualifying position of fourth for all three races, the odds were on for some good results.
First race of the day and a strong opening lap for Sharp moved him into a podium position were he would finish the race after moving passed the car of rival, Fulvio Mussi.
In the last race of the weekend it was very much of the same after another quick getaway moved Sharp into a potential trophy winning position. Sharp began to close down on second position runner, Frank Wrathall and began to apply pressure, but a mistake from Sharp exiting Hawthorn relived the pressure and Sharp finished the weekend spraying the champagne for the forth time this year.
“It was good to have such a strong finish to the end of the year and it means that hopefully we can carry that moment through to next season what ever we look at competing in.”
Tom Sharp and team IDL will be looking at making the step up into the highly competitive Porsche Carrera Cup GB next season, after Sharp was one of the Porsche Scholarship finalists last year.
