It was another near perfect weekend for Camberley’s Tom Sharp as he extended his championship lead to an impressive 66 points ahead of his closest championship rival.
After positioning his IDL UK /Vcars.co.uk Ginetta G55 on pole position for the opening race at Donington Park on Saturday, Sharp quickly made his escape in race 1 to lead a comfortable lights to flag victory. Race 2 saw another rapid start to the race for Sharp and he brought the car home for the fifth win in a row.
The third and final reverse race of the weekend saw Sharp having to start from fifth place. After a remarkable start Sharp shot into second place by the end of lap one where he shadowed the car of Tom Ingram until the end of the race.
“Two wins and a second place in the tricky reverse grid race was better than we could have hoped for” explained Sharp. “Ingram was quick in the last race but sometimes you have to know when to settle for a decent points haul and after getting the extra point for fastest lap the difference between first and second is not so great”.
The next three rounds of the Ginetta GT Supercup will be held at Thruxton in Andover on the 27/28th April 2012.
